Sir(iou)Sly Good

Sir Sly has been on my radar over the last two weeks. They put out an EP in 2013, which was great, but I hadn't heard from them again until recently. They finally released their full length album, You Haunt Me last fall. It's a fantastic album that has a nice blend of pop sounds with indie and electronic influences. I'm loving it. Here are some of my favorites:

"Easy Now" (not actually on the album, but an earlier release that I LOVE)

"Too Far Gone" (my favorite song on album)
I'm obsessed with 2:15-2:40

An excellent remix of "You Haunt Me", by AMTRAC

Anyway, these guys are great. Give them a listen to and let me know what you think. Sometimes they kind of remind me of an Islandic band I like, Kent, but more toned down and indie.

Oh, and rumor has it that Sir Sly's drummer is a "never-nude," at least according to their Wikipedia page here.

Whoa.. I can't believe its been this long.

Time flies.  Truly.  Life gets so busy you blink and your kids are big and you have grey hairs popping out.  Since the last time I posted there are lots and lots of music I have encountered and there is too much to share in one post.  So here is a few things I have been listening to for the past little bit.

Made In Heights- Murakami
This is a song I have listened to probably 200 times in the last 4 months.  It gets soo intense towards the second half.  from 2:55 to the end of the song it may be my favorite part of any song I have heard in a long time.  I get so pumped; impossible not to get pumped.  Made in Heights is a great group in general and is someone I recommend you check out.   You know what.. I am not gonna explain why I like everyone one of the following songs.  If I post it.. I like it and I think they are really good songs that you should check out.  DONT skip on the LEON BRIDGES guy.  He is amazing.

Cathedrals- Harlem

Iyes- Glow

Verite- Heartbeat

Leon Bridges- Coming Home

Tei Shi- Nevermind the end

Prinze George- Victor

There are Giants in the Sky...

Have any of you seen Into the Woods yet? Nancy and I went to see it over the holiday break and we both really enjoyed it. The story is kind of messed up and depressing at the end, but overall it's a very fun experience. Many of you have heard the music from its long run on Broadway, but I wasn't too familiar with many of the songs. They are great!

Any favorites? Nancy and I really like "Giants in the Sky," "Agony," and of course the prologue.

Back At It

Whoa, it's been awhile. Things have been crazy since starting grad school and I just haven't taken the time to keep this up. Here's another go at it.

Here's a playlist of some of the songs that I have been listening to a lot lately. There was so much good music that came out in 2014. Many of the songs on this playlist were released in 2014 or 2013 since the last post on this blog. Anyway, so much more than this, but here is a flavor of what I've been chillin' to recently.

Let me know what you've been obsessed with recently! I need more. Dave has graciously introduced me to a few lately...keep 'em coming Dave! Anyone else?

Breaking my silence

It's been a while since I've posted.  Life just gets so busy I haven't even really had the chance to check out some new music.  But I decided to break my silence by sharing with you a band called The Dig.
This song is called "break the silence" ... see what I did there.  This is a great song.

Another great song here from their Album- Midnight Flowers-  This is called "I already forgot everything you said"

I Have an "Instant Crush" on Julian Casablancas

Whoa, it has been way too long. I have been swamped at work lately! I'm losing my mind. The Strokes are the only thing to ease the pain sometimes.

Have y'all heard the album they released earlier this year? Very choice. I like every song on this album. Some of my favorites, however, include "One Way Trigger," "Partners in Crime," and "Happy Ending." Like I said though, I like every single song. Have a listen mates!

Basically, I think most of what Julian Casablancas (lead singer in The Strokes) does is pretty awesome. Have you heard his collaboration with Daft Punk in their latest album? Well my friends, it is worth every second to listen. I had this song on repeat for weeks when it first came out. In fact, I have learned how to play this song on the guitar. Very fun.

Youngblood

Conner Youngblood has been on repeat for the last week.  He draws an obvious comparison to Bon Iver.  This guy is just a musical genius though.  He does it all- Sings, Guitar, Percussion, piano, Banjo, Mixing, THE HARP, etc.

This is one of my favorite tracks- Australia

Another great song- Monsters.  Banjo and Dubstep!  amazing.

A summer song
